ORPAL – 46 is a national Association and made up of vessel owners with the Spanish ensign, that fish with deep-sea or surface long-liners. The majority of their activity is in waters close to the Galician and Portuguese coast as well as in Mauritania. Several vessels will shortly return to Moroccan fishing grounds when the new agreement between the European Union and Morocco comes into force.
The vessels mainly capture the following species: hake, derbio, sea bream, red porgy, grouper, sword fish, mako shark, etc.
ORPAL 46 is also associated with the National Organization for Fisheries Associations (ONAPE), which has its head quarters in Madrid, and is considered one of the most important fishing association confederations in Spain, due to the large number of representatives from the Spanish fishing industry.
ORPAL INTERNATIONAL was established as a response to fishing vessel owners requirements; circumstances leading to the creation of joint ventures in third countries with greater fishing possibilities: Morocco, Mauritania etc
Company vessels are mainly dedicated to fishing hake, derbio, stone bass, sea bream, scabbard fish, conger eel, sword fish, mako shark etc.
The organization is currently working on projects in Uruguay, Peru and Ecuador to extend the fleet’s possibilities in new fishing grounds and increase the number of fishing vessels in operation. Relevant negotiation is also underway for new experimental fishing projects in various countries with interesting resource potential.
ORPAL INTERNATIONAL is also a member of the “CLUSTER OF THIRD COUNTRY FISHING COMPANIES” of which practically all active fishing companies in Spain, with joint ventures in non-community countries, are members.
